I was out at shoreham today. It was almost deserted when I drove up, just one on the water. Very unusaul, either the winter hibernation has begun early or half term has an effect. Arrived before 11am and rigged a 5.5m and it was just about right. lots of swell and steep faces for once with cross on winds. Got a some good downtheliners and started swinging the tail out with a few donkey kick things. The current was a git from the start, tearing out your fin on gybes, wave rides and landing jumps. Wind was building and the sail felt dreadful, but then realised that boom end had slipped round to the side releasing about 4 inches of out haul. It was an eighties ballooning sail moment alright. Cranked the whole thing down and pressed on with a bit more onshore arriving with the rain. Backside slaps (cheeky) and some bigger air. By the end though, my set up felt like pig sh*t. Couldnt work it out and felt sure it was a leaky board weighing me down. In hindsight probably well overpowered by then (reaching 30mph) coupled with a current that was like glue on the way back in and chop between the sets. Too much time spent trying to squeeze it back up wind to be truly enjoyable. Good session early on, but should have changed down sooner, quite onshore too later on. 3 star only.
